Production Methods

Production Methods

To produce the products required to serve our customers job requirements, we must put the raw material (granite) through two major processes;

  • Drilling and blasting
  • Crushing and screening

How we manufacture;

Drilling and Blasting is done with large air operated or hydraulic drills that drill vertical holes of 3" to 6" in diameter and from 4' to 63' in depth. The holes are loaded with various types of explosives, detonators and time delayers then blasted to produce "Shot Rock" approximately 24" and smaller. The volume produced by each blast or "shot" is about 25,000 YD c¯ (cubic yards) depending on inventory requirements.

Crushing and Screening
is the last and final process prior to shipping the finished product to the customer.
This is accomplished by loading the 24" and smaller shot rock into the primary jaw crusher which breaks it to 5" and smaller for the secondary jaw/roll crusher which breaks
it further to as small as 3/4 minus.

What is Screening?
Screening the sorting of material into size ranges. The feed material is sorted by a triple deck screening plant that grades the feed material into the various sizes and types required by the customer for their job application. We crush,screen,tertiary screen and wash 9 different granite products at present.

Other products are screened by the use of trommel (barrel) and flat deck type screens for our topsoil, sand and various mixes for landscaping and building construction uses.

Making Topsoil
Unscreened topsoil is mixed with peat. This is piled and left to sit for a year. Twice a year we screen the blended material. The material is screened with a "Trommel" fitted with 1/2" screens.

This finished product is stacked and ready for sale.

Making wood mulch
Logs, brush and stumps are ground to make wood chips.

Making Gabion
Material from primary crusher being screened for gabion stone.
6" crusher run is by the product.

Breaking Oversize Stone
During the blasting process a small percentage of rock too large to crush are produced. These are handled by a secondary breaking method. Some large rocks are sold "as is" while others are used to fill low areas to increase our production floor area.
